Fleming County Fiscal Court approves budgets, appointments and authorizes election spending

At its Oct. 13 meeting the Fleming County Fiscal Court unanimously approved multiple routine motions including treasurer and road reports totaling $2.12 million, set the constable bond at $50,000, reappointed a watershed board member and authorized up to $11,500 in election expenses.
The Fleming County Fiscal Court met Oct. 13 in Flemingsburg and unanimously approved a bundle of routine financial and administrative items.
The court accepted County Treasurer Kathy Dryden’s month-end and quarterly financial reports showing $2,120,003.13 in county funds, including a General Fund balance of $696,605.50 and a Road Fund balance of $773,143.05. The road maintenance reports approved covered April ($17,180.30), May ($62,062.44) and September ($200,606.93). Ray H. Money moved to approve the treasurer’s reports and Donnie Fawns seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The court set the bond requirement for elected constables at $50,000, to be paid by the elected official. Chris Hickerson moved the measure and Richie Kielman seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Also approved was the reappointment of Willie Campbell to the Fox Creek Watershed Conservancy Board for a term from Nov. 2, 2020, to Nov. 2, 2024 (motion by James Smoot, second Chris Hickerson), and renewal of the Trash for Cash insurance policy effective Oct. 15, 2020, through Oct. 15, 2021 (motion by Ray H. Money, second Chris Hickerson).
The court authorized payment of election expenses up to $11,500 (motion by Chris Hickerson, second Donnie Fawns) and approved claims and carry-in claims as presented; the court also authorized travel expenses for road department testing up to $500 if required.
The Fleming County Sheriff’s monthly and quarterly reports were accepted, and the court approved an amended 2020 sheriff’s budget and granted the County Judge/Executive authority to sign related documents. Multiple motions on sheriff’s reports and budget amendments were moved and carried unanimously.
All motions recorded at the meeting were unanimous according to the minutes; the meeting was called to order by Magistrate District 2 David J. DeAtley and clerked by Fiscal Court Clerk Tammy L. Gray. The court adjourned at 9:19 a.m.
What’s next: several items—discussion of annual fire dues and a proposed solar project—were tabled until the next meeting.
