Sevier County to open Center View Convenience Center Aug. 26; citizens raise concerns about five-bag limit

Sevier County officials told the Intergovernmental Committee Aug. 8 that the Center View Convenience Center will open Aug. 26 and that county leaders have heard concerns from residents about a new five-bag daily limit for disposals.
Director Dan King of the Department of Solid Waste Services provided the opening date for the Center View Convenience Center. Mayor Larry Waters told the committee that citizens have raised questions and concerns about the new convenience center policies, especially the five (5) bag daily limit. Vice Mayor Bryan McCarter reminded members about a breakfast with Solid Waste Department employees scheduled for Aug. 15.
Assistant County Mayor and Senior Director of Community Planning and Development Matt Rudder informed the committee that the bid opening for renovation of the Pigeon Forge Convenience Center is scheduled for Aug. 13. Director Jimmy Bohanan of the Department of Fleet Administration and Services updated the committee on the current status of the county's fleet facility and said the county plans to tour other fleet facilities in Sevier County with members of the mayor's office to inform future planning.
Officials did not present proposed policy changes to the five-bag limit or report a public hearing date; they relayed citizen concerns and scheduled internal staff and procurement milestones. A ribbon cutting for the Center View Convenience Center is scheduled for Aug. 23, McCarter said.
