Sevier County committee authorizes mayor to begin negotiations on downtown lease for temporary offices

Commissioner Jack Parton made the motion; Commissioner Carroll Rauhuff seconded and the motion passed without objection.
Assessor of Property Thomas King and Vice Mayor Bryan McCarter told the committee they have been communicating with the property owner and identified that several county departments could move in quickly if a lease is agreed. The committee did not set lease terms at the meeting; members limited the action to authorizing the mayor to begin negotiations.
The vote was procedural and limited to negotiating authority; no lease was executed and no budget appropriation was recorded during the meeting. Mayor Larry Waters will lead discussions with the property owners and report back to the committee on any proposed terms or required budget actions.
The committee also discussed the county's broader capital projects in the same update, including scheduling and ceremonial dates for upcoming facility openings.
