County discusses emergency-services pay updates; EMS proposes first ambulance fee increase since 2007

Mayor Larry Waters updated the Budget Committee Oct. 10 on proposed changes to the county’s Classification and Compensation Plan for emergency-service personnel, saying the changes are intended to make Sevier County departments more competitive with neighboring jurisdictions.
Sheriff Michael Hodges and Director Rick Valentine elaborated with examples comparing local compensation to neighboring communities. No formal action was taken on pay plan changes at the committee meeting.
Separately, Mayor Waters and Director Valentine informed the committee of a proposed increase to the ambulance fee schedule. Meeting minutes note this would be the first increase since 2007; the committee took no action and the Intergovernmental Committee will vote on the proposal at a later date.
