Sevier County intergovernmental committee nominates leadership, OKs Hatcher lease and disaster-aid resolution

Sevier County’s Intergovernmental Committee on Oct. 10 chose its leadership for the meeting cycle, approved a lease proposal for the Hatcher Building to be considered by the full board, and heard an update and proposed resolution to appropriate funds for Hurricane Helene relief.
Commissioner Carroll Rauhuff nominated Commission Kent Woods for chairman; Commissioner Jack Parton seconded and the committee approved the nomination unanimously. Rauhuff then nominated Director Andrew Temple for secretary; Parton seconded and the committee approved the nomination unanimously.
Commissioner Kent Woods presented a proposed lease for the Hatcher property and said the Budget Committee had already approved the appropriation of funds to support the lease. Commissioner Jack Parton moved that the committee approve the lease and forward it to the full Board of Commissioners for action on Oct. 21, 2024; Commissioner Michael Maddron seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Mayor Larry Waters briefed the committee on Resolution 2024-10-XX, a proposal to appropriate funds to Mountain Ways and Mountain Touch for response to Hurricane Helene flooding. Waters and Vice Mayor Bryan McCarter described plans to work with the Tennessee Valley Authority and the State on cleanup for Douglas Lake and noted that the State of Tennessee has declared Sevier County a disaster area related to the event.
Director Jimmy Bohanan reported to the committee that all solid-waste roll-off trucks except one passed DOT inspection; the failing vehicle is being modified. Commissioner Carroll Rauhuff moved to adjourn; Commissioner Ray Ogle seconded and the meeting ended at 5:50 PM.
