Sevier County EMS: three ambulances arriving soon, new orders delayed 18–24 months; first fee increase since 2007

Sevier County’s Department of Emergency Medical Services told the Emergency Services Committee on Oct. 10, 2024, that the county will soon receive three ambulances purchased in the FY 2023–24 budget, and has placed orders for additional vehicles under the FY 2024–25 budget with expected delivery in 18 to 24 months.
Director Rick Valentine said the department also implemented an increase to its fee schedule, the first adjustment to EMS fees since 2007. Valentine said the fee change was presented to the Budget Committee and approved by the Intergovernmental Committee before being reported to the Emergency Services Committee; no further committee action was required at the meeting.
Why it matters: New ambulances will affect response capacity in coming months, while the fee schedule change affects how EMS services are billed to patients or insurers; the longer delivery window for FY 2024–25 vehicles means the county will need to manage demand and equipment availability until then.
The committee heard the report as part of its routine departmental updates and did not take separate formal action on the ambulance purchases or the fee schedule at the Oct. 10 meeting.
