Sevier County committee keeps five-bag residential limit, gives attendants discretion for infrequent users

The Sevier County Solid Waste Special Committee voted Oct. 10 to retain the county’s current five-bag residential limit while giving convenience center attendants discretion to allow residents who do not come to the site every day to dispose of more than five bags.
The motion to keep the existing bag limit was made by Commissioner Warren Hurst and seconded by Commissioner Ronnie Whaley; the committee approved it unanimously. The motion also directed Director Dan King to give attendants discretion to accept additional bags from infrequent users.
The vote followed a one-month operations update from Vice Mayor Bryan McCarter, Assistant County Mayor and Senior Director Matt Rudder, and Director Dan King. They reported that during the first 45 operational days under the new policy (Aug. 26–Oct. 9) the county issued 1,443 tickets totaling $15,425. Officials also said the Pigeon Forge Convenience Center reopened Oct. 5 and that operational hours will change for daylight saving time to 8 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday–Saturday and noon–6 p.m. Sunday; the hours will be reevaluated at the end of DST.
Mayor Larry Waters provided an update on the future Wears Valley Road Convenience Center site; the transcript records the update but does not include further specifics. The committee did not record additional votes on the site at this meeting.
Next steps include continued monitoring: staff will track ticketing and operations under the retained bag limit and report back when the daylight-saving time operational schedule is reevaluated.
