Sevier County creates Building and Fire Board of Appeals and appoints inaugural members

Mayor Larry Waters called the Sevier County Board of Commissioners steering committee to order at 5:00 p.m. Oct. 14 and opened nominations for committee leadership. Commissioner Ronnie Allen nominated Commissioner Ray Ogle for chairman; Commissioner Carroll Rauhuff seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Commissioner Ray Ogle opened nominations for secretary. Commissioner Harold Pitner nominated Director Andrew Temple for secretary; Commissioner Rauhuff seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Chief David Puckett told the committee that Sevier County has held exempt status since Jan. 1, 2024, and said the county therefore needs a formal Sevier County Building and Fire Board of Appeals to hear challenges to inspection findings, similar to the county’s Board of Zoning Appeals. He presented a recommended list of inaugural board members.
Commissioner Carroll Rauhuff moved to create the Sevier County Building and Fire Board of Appeals and to appoint the inaugural members recommended by Chief Puckett. Commissioner Ronnie Allen seconded the motion; the committee approved it unanimously.
Mayor Waters then presented the final meeting agenda. Commissioner Rauhuff moved to approve the agenda; Commissioner Harold Pitner seconded, and the committee approved it unanimously. Commissioner Dale Hill moved to adjourn, seconded by Commissioner Aaron Foster, and the meeting adjourned at 5:14 p.m.
