Dickson County Commission approves budget and funding measures, authorizes grant application and road dedication

The Dickson County Commission on June 21 approved multiple budget amendments, authorized a grant application to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, awarded a waste-disposal contract, and accepted a private-road dedication.
Commissioners voted unanimously to adopt Resolution 06-2021-04 authorizing amendments to the county’s General Purpose School Fund (Fund 141), Federal Projects Fund (Fund 142) and Central Cafeteria Fund (Fund 143). The commission also approved Resolution 06-2021-05 to allow certain amendments to all county funds except those established for schools. Both motions were moved and seconded by county commissioners and passed by a voice vote.
The commission authorized submission of an application for a TDOT Litter and Trash Collecting Grant for fiscal year 2021–2022 in the amount of $54,200 after a request submitted by the Dickson County Sheriff. Commissioner Carl Buckner moved the authorization and Commissioner Jeff Eby seconded; the motion passed by unanimous aye voice vote.
Separately, the county authorized Resolution 06-2021-07 directing the purchasing agent to enter a 60-month contract with Clarksville Disposal for a dumpster to be delivered to and serviced at the Dickson County Justice Center at a monthly cost of $147.29 and a one-time delivery charge of $100. Commissioner Johnnie Reed moved the measure and Commissioner Jeff Eby seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The commission accepted dedication of a private road known as Log Wall Road, to be extended 0.4 miles running parallel to the airport runway, adding it to the county road map for maintenance as a public road. Commissioner Randy Simpkins moved the resolution; Commissioner Stacey Batey seconded, and the motion passed by unanimous voice vote.
On a budget measure aimed at supporting volunteer emergency services, commissioners approved Resolution 06-2021-09 to amend the County General Fund (Fund 101) and appropriate an additional $305,414 to assist non-municipal volunteer fire departments with qualifying purchases and expenses. Commissioner Jeff Eby moved the measure and Commissioner Becky Spicer seconded; it passed by unanimous voice vote.
Other business included a procedural withdrawal by Commissioner James C. Dawson of his earlier motion to set a 30 MPH speed limit on Westcott Road and moving that decision to the July 3, 2021 meeting. Three rezoning items (Tax Map 129, Parcel 091.00; and parts of Tax Map 128, Parcel 085.00) were deferred to the July County Commission meeting by motion of Commissioner Carl Buckner and second by Commissioner Becky Spicer. The commission also approved a slate of notaries submitted by County Clerk Luanne Greer.
The commission announced local fireworks schedules for early July and set its next regular session for July 19, 2021 at 7:00 P.M. in the county commission chamber. The meeting adjourned at 7:24 P.M.
