Bland County supervisors approve FY22 budget amendment, appointments and permit extension

The Bland County Board of Supervisors met June 28, 2022, at the Bland County Courthouse and approved a series of routine motions, including a fiscal amendment and multiple appointments.
The board unanimously approved a FY22 budget amendment adding $214,000 in supplemental revenue, directing $164,000 to Bland County Public Schools’ food services and $50,000 to E911. Supervisor Adam Kidd moved the amendment and Supervisor Stephen Kelley seconded; the roll call vote was recorded as 4-0 in favor. The consent agenda — which included payroll, vendor payments for May and June, departmental reports, and appropriation of an April Social Services local allotment and the Bland County School Board’s July requisition — passed on a separate unanimous vote.
During public comment, resident Steve McBride spoke on behalf of a group from Poor Valley, urging attention to road conditions and asking questions about trash collection; the board did not take immediate action beyond noting the concern for follow-up.
Other actions approved included: - Adoption of a proclamation recognizing David Scott Meade for six years of service as Bland County Public Schools superintendent (moved by Keith Costello, seconded by Adam Kidd; approved unanimously). - Adoption of the private road name Parsons Place Ln, located off Main Street, under County of Bland Code section 44.1 (moved by Stephen Kelley, seconded by Keith Costello; approved unanimously). - Approval of trash-billing adjustments for March–June 2022 totaling $4,339.65 (moved by Keith Costello, seconded by Adam Kidd; approved unanimously). - A one-year extension to the Conditional Use Permit for Tax Map No. 13A1-1-39, extending the permit to June 28, 2023 (moved by Adam Kidd, seconded by Stephen Kelley; roll call 4-0). - Appointments to local boards and commissions: Krystal Carver Perdue to the Department of Social Services Board (term July 1, 2022–June 30, 2026); James “Jim” Pruett to the Planning Commission (term July 1, 2022–June 30, 2026); and reappointments of Elmer Chewning and Meagan Bradshaw to four-year Planning Commission terms (all motions moved by Adam Kidd, seconded by Keith Costello; roll call 4-0). - Declaration of a 2007 Dodge Caravan used by the Department of Social Services as surplus; the Bland Ministry Center and the Dental Clinic were given first option to accept the vehicle (moved by Stephen Kelley, seconded by Keith Costello; approved unanimously).
The meeting adjourned by unanimous motion. The board set its next regular meeting for July 26, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. at the Bland County Courthouse.
