At its Dec. 20 meeting, the Bland County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to rezone Tax Map No. 27‑A‑50B to Commercial and to grant a conditional‑use permit allowing the operation of a service station on the property owned by Chad and Chase Havens.
Joel Cagle, Planning Commission Secretary, briefed the board on the Planning Commission's recommendation and conditions for the project. The board opened and closed the public hearing without any members of the public speaking.
Supervisor Keith Costello moved to amend the county zoning map to Commercial; Supervisor Adam Kidd seconded. The board approved the rezoning on a roll call vote with all four supervisors voting yes. Supervisor Adam Kidd then moved to approve the conditional‑use permit for a service station, with the condition that the project be completed within 12 months of board approval; Supervisor Keith Costello seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The approvals clear the way, subject to the stated condition, for the Havens to develop a service station on the identified parcel. The board recessed the meeting until Jan. 3, 2023.
The Planning Commission recommendation and the board motions were recorded in the meeting minutes; no appeals, legal challenges, or permit suspensions were noted in the transcript.
