Administrator Tracy M. Gee told the Board that Sheriff Arthur Townsend had received $39,888.15 from an estate pursuant to Virginia Code Section 64.2-610(A) after a three-year probate process. The Board voted to accept and appropriate the funds, with the sheriff and the administrator to determine placement in the Sheriff's budget and present that allocation at a future meeting.
The Board also voted to transfer $15,000 from Compensation Board vacancy savings, splitting $7,500 each to the Maintenance line item and the Part-time Wages line item. Separately, the Board approved using $2,636.58 of $6,388.11 in contract repayment funds from Deputy K. Gee to pay off an incoming deputy's contract with the Town of Chase City and leave $3,751.53 in Police Supplies.
All motions passed by roll call vote with six supervisors voting yes, none opposed, and one absent. The minutes reflect that the specific allocation of the accepted estate funds will be decided by the Sheriff and the County Administrator and brought back for Board approval.
