Lunenburg schools plan ESSER III spending for HVAC upgrades and student supports

James Abernathy, Assistant School Superintendent and Finance Director, reported to the Board that the school division will request appropriation of ESSER III supplemental funds at the April meeting to purchase and install new HVAC systems at both elementary schools.
Abernathy said required portions of ESSER III money have been earmarked for after-school remediation, summer school and continuing-education credits for teachers; he also reported that $80,000 in ESSER II funds have been set aside for athletics at the middle and high schools. He told the Board that average daily membership (ADM) had dipped slightly to 1,510 because some students recently began homeschooling, and that the state will certify enrollment on March 31.
The division plans to present FY2022-23 budget projections at the April meeting and will formally request appropriation of ESSER III funds then. No specific HVAC vendors or dollar estimates for the elementary installations were included in the meeting minutes.
