Board approves clerks’ fee codification, CUP fee increase, appointments, permits and other administrative items

The board codified Circuit Court Clerk fees into ordinance language, raised utility CUP application fees to $2,500, reappointed Dennis Hudson to the Board of Zoning, reinstated mileage reimbursement for supervisors, approved a fireworks permit, and authorized Meridian Waste to sample soils on county land.
At its June 9 meeting the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors approved several administrative and routine items.
Administrator Tracy M. Gee recommended updating the Circuit Court Clerk fee ordinance to reference the Clerk’s fee schedule and remove the ordinance date so future fee updates need not require an ordinance amendment; the board approved the codification.
Director of Planning and Community Development Taylor Newton requested increasing the Conditional Use Permit application fee for utility projects to $2,500 to cover higher processing costs; the board approved the fee increase.
Supervisor Alvester Edmonds moved and the board reappointed Dennis Hudson to the Board of Zoning for a five‑year term beginning July 1, 2022. Supervisor Mike Hankins said Mike Champion will step down from the Piedmont Senior Resources board and the county will seek a replacement.
The board reinstated mileage reimbursement for supervisors attending out‑of‑county meetings and approved a fireworks-display permit for Meherrin Volunteer Fire and Rescue’s July 2 event using Flashover Fireworks. Administrator Gee also presented Meridian Waste’s request to sample soils on county property near the landfill to determine suitability as a borrow pit and the board approved the sampling.
Planning Commission Chairman James "Buck" Tharpe informed the board that Dominion Energy plans to visit local governing bodies to provide information about a proposed transmission line. Administrator Gee reported Project LUIS secured an affordable lease for the Kenbridge Crown Castle tower with no construction costs and said the Landfill Committee will meet in August after soil testing at the animal shelter is complete.
