Lunenburg Board approves credit card policy, accepts insurance proceeds and fills several vacancies

LUNENBURG, Va. — At its July 14 meeting, the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors approved multiple administrative measures, heard reports from VDOT and county staff, and made four appointments to local boards.
Administrator Tracy M. Gee presented an updated Credit Card Use Policy allowing more county offices to obtain county credit cards. The board unanimously adopted the policy and authorized applying for a card for the Sheriff’s Office with a $3,500 limit and a card for the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office with a $2,500 limit.
Kevin Smith, providing the monthly Virginia Department of Transportation report, said Route 620 (Renrut Road) improvements are complete, that additional truck‑route signage had been installed in Victoria, and that contractors will install center‑line rumble strips starting in August on Routes 40 and 49. He also said a pipe replacement near the county solid‑waste convenience center will close the K‑V Road/Oral Oaks Road intersection on July 23, 7 a.m.–5 p.m., with a posted detour using W. 6th Street and Mecklenburg Avenue.
The board accepted $24,604 in insurance proceeds from VACorp for a sheriff’s vehicle damaged in May and appropriated the funds into the Sheriff’s Office capital budget. The board also reviewed several appointments: Nellie Parrish to Southside Virginia Community College’s board, Supervisor Edward Pennington to the STEPS Community Action Agency Board, Paul Perusse reappointed to the District 2 Board of Zoning Appeals, and Harry C. Garrett appointed to fill an unexpired Planning Commission term.
Other items: Administrator Gee told the board she will seek certification from the Circuit Court Clerk to allow electronic meeting minutes to serve as the official record after a prior bound package was lost in transit; Dr. Melba Moore of Crossroads Community Services reported on staffing, training and vehicle surpluses and said she will present a fuller update in August; and Joe Gustaf of the landfill requested shortening Saturday hours, which the Landfill Committee will review on August 10.
