Board accepts homeland-security grants, funds airport study and coordinates December payroll date

LUNENBURG, Va. — At its Nov. 10 meeting the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors approved several administrative and funding items: acceptance and appropriation of two 2022 State Homeland Security grants totaling $210,000, authorization to pay $12,500 for a geotechnical study at the Lunenburg Airport, and coordination of the county December payroll date to Dec. 20, 2022 to match the school system.
County Administrator Tracy M. Gee said the county received a $90,000 Radiocache Grant and $120,000 for a Reduction of Long-Term Community Vulnerabilities Grant from the 2022 State Homeland Security Grant Program; no local match was required and the board voted to accept and appropriate the funds.
Community Development Director Taylor Newton told the board the Timmons Group completed an environmental study for adding 12 t-hangars at the Lunenburg Airport and recommended a geotechnical engineering study; the board approved moving capital funds from the General Fund to the Airport Fund to pay the $12,500 fee.
Kevin Smith of VDOT reported maintenance activities including primary mowing, a successful snow-removal dry run, posting bids for the Hardy Road project and that Epps Lane is scheduled in the SSYP for 2023 with likely work beginning in April.
