Mackinac County commissioners unanimously move to review 2023 wage study after closed session

Commissioner John Kling moved at 4:04 p.m. to go into closed session under "section 8(i)(h) under the Open Meetings Act" to consider a confidential written legal opinion; Commissioner Judy St. Louis-Scott seconded the motion and a roll-call vote recorded Commissioners Austin Kimberling, John Kling, Mike Patrick, Daryl Schroeder and Judy St. Louis-Scott as voting yes.
After returning to open session at 4:21–4:22 p.m. on subsequent motions by Kling and seconded by Commissioner Daryl Schroeder, the board discussed using data from a 2023 wage study the county had paid for but not previously implemented. The minutes state the board wants to "make wages as fair and correct as possible according to the wage study" and directed staff to update the wage numbers and forward the materials to the County Attorney for legal review.
