Mackinac County board approves MIDC plan, confirms 2026 appointments and elects vice chair

The Mackinac County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the county's 2026 Michigan Indigent Defense Commission (MIDC) Compliance Plan after a presentation by MIDC Administrator Chad Peltier.
Following that vote, the board approved 2026 commissioner committee assignments and liaison appointments, keeping both lists unchanged from 2025. The board then elected Commissioner John Kling as vice chair for 2026 after nominations from Commissioners Austin Kimberling and Judy St. Louis‑Scott; Kling received three votes.
Commissioner Daryl Schroeder also presented a rough draft of proposed changes to the board rules and agenda format, including a proposal to use the first monthly meeting as a Committee of the Whole for discussion and the second meeting for formal votes. The board voted to table formal approval of the revised board rules until the proposed changes could be presented to the full board.
