Mackinac County approves sheriff vehicle purchase, several grants, bills and budget amendment

The Mackinac County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 22 approved a series of routine administrative actions, including awarding a vehicle bid for the sheriff’s office, recording grant awards to emergency services, approving bills and a budget amendment, and appointing a county canvasser.
The board voted to award a bid to O'Connor Motors for two new Durango vehicles for use in road patrol and by the school resource officer at $42,000 each. Sheriff Ed Wilk reported the county received an ORV grant and MDOC funds for inmate housing; he also said EPS will address alarm buttons affected by courtroom remodel construction and that a broken city water line may be the cause of restroom pipe issues in the sheriff’s office lobby.
E911/Emergency Manager Bryce Tracy reported approximately $143,000 in ice‑storm reimbursement funds are coming to the county, with most funds allocated to the Road Commission for debris cleanup and about 25% still being processed by the state. Tracy also reported a $5,367 EMPG grant for personnel and office supplies and a $37,000 Hazard Mitigation Grant Program award.
The board approved the 2026 Bills Policy and later approved regular bills totaling $181,111.64, additional bills totaling $91,352.62, and budget amendment #26‑01. Clerk Hillary Vowell also requested and the board approved reappointing Republican County Canvasser Mary Lynn Swiderski to a four‑year term.
All recorded votes on these items show Commissioners Austin Kimberling, Mike Patrick, Daryl Schroeder and Judy St. Louis‑Scott voting yes; Commissioner John Kling was absent for roll calls shown in the minutes.
