Mackinac County tables court consolidation staffing changes pending union input

Clerk Hillary Vowell told the Mackinac County Board of Commissioners that a proposed move of the Circuit Court Clerk/Administrator to the second floor, as part of a court consolidation plan, would change that position's employment status: the chief judge would appoint the person as a court employee, and the role would no longer be part of the county clerk's office or the union.
The board asked Clerk Vowell to discuss the proposal with the union representative and promised the clerk would present a new job description for the county-clerk position that would open if the move proceeds. Commissioner Austin Kimberling moved and Commissioner Daryl Schroeder seconded a motion to table the staffing change "until further info is available," which the board approved by roll call.
District Court Administrator Christine Bawol said she expected new job descriptions by the end of January as part of the consolidation process. The board did not take final action on the consolidation staffing plan at the meeting; Vowell and other staff will return with union feedback and finalized job descriptions.
