At its Jan. 22 meeting the Mackinac County Board of Commissioners approved several routine and governance items and took roll‑call votes on multiple motions.
By unanimous roll call the board approved the 2nd Amended Non‑Elected Non‑Union Salary Resolution (correcting an earlier error) and approved the county's 2026 Bills Policy. Commissioners also approved amended 2026 Board Rules that change the monthly cadence so the first meeting is a Committee of the Whole and the second meeting is the Regular meeting; the rules also limit adding last‑minute agenda items except for procedural or mandated changes, legal opinions, items on a timeline or chair/clerk‑deemed emergencies.
Clerk Hillary Vowell requested reappointment of Republican County Canvasser Mary Lynn Swiderski to another four‑year term; the board approved the appointment by roll call. The board reviewed and approved the regular bills for Jan. 22 totaling $181,111.64 and additional bills totaling $91,352.62. Budget amendment #26‑01 was approved by roll call. The meeting adjourned at 5:38 p.m.
Separately, Vowell requested an additional full‑time maintenance position; Commissioner St. Louis‑Scott moved to deny the request and Commissioner Patrick seconded. The roll call for that motion recorded zero yes votes and four no votes, indicating the motion to deny failed. The minutes also note a decision to hold off on hiring at this time but do not record a separate affirmative hiring action.
