Board approves two new sheriff SUVs; county reports storm reimbursements and mitigation grants

Sheriff Ed Wilk told the Mackinac County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 22 that the department should award a bid to O'Connor Motors for two new Dodge Durango SUVs at $42,000 each for use by Road Patrol and the school resource officer; the board approved the bid by roll call.
Wilk also reported that his office received an ORV grant and funding from the Michigan Department of Corrections to support inmate housing. He said EPS will arrive in the coming weeks to repair alarm buttons that have been tripped amid courtroom-remodel construction, and that a broken city water line may be the source of recent restroom pipe issues in the sheriff's office lobby.
E911/Emergency Manager Bryce Tracy reported the county received approximately $143,000 in ice‑storm reimbursement funds, with the majority designated for the Road Commission to address road debris removal; Tracy said the State is still processing roughly 25% of the total funds. He added that the county received a $5,367 Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) for personnel and supplies and a $37,000 award from the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.
No further action was taken beyond approving the vehicle purchase and recording the grant and maintenance updates.
