Benzie County approves bills, ARPA-funded repaving, grant and event-service agreements

At its May 28 meeting the Benzie County Board of Commissioners approved a series of financial and service actions.
The board voted unanimously to pay bills dated May 10–May 23, 2024, totaling $308,365.76. The board also accepted a proposal from Team Elmers to repave the Sheriff’s Office public parking lot and approach to the pole barn for $119,220; funds will come from the county’s ARPA Capital Fund. Commissioners recorded a unanimous roll-call vote on that motion.
The board approved an agreement with World Triathlon Corporation to provide EMS, Emergency Manager oversight, extra road patrol and additional central dispatch services during the Ironman 70.3 Michigan race. The Chair was authorized to sign the agreement.
Other financial actions included authorization to purchase additional Emergency Medical Dispatch licenses (quote from Priority Dispatch) for $5,084 with a related $7,000 budget amendment recognizing EMD revenues and expenditures, and a transfer of $5,529.74 from the Dispatch Training Fund to the Central Dispatch Fund to reimburse training-related wages. The board also accepted a 2024 Marine Safety Program federal grant award of $10,100 from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and authorized the Chair to sign the grant agreement.
All motions described above were approved by roll call with no recorded nays on the motions listed in the meeting record.
Why it matters: the actions allocate county funds for public-safety infrastructure and event support, and apply federal grant funds to marine safety programming. The repaving project will be financed with ARPA capital funds already available to the county.
