Barry County approves grants, contracts and more than $4.7 million in payments; several unanimous votes

At its Dec. 10, 2024 Committee of the Whole meeting the Barry County Board of Commissioners approved a package of consent and financial items, including grant applications and administrative contracts, and recorded a series of unanimous roll call votes.
Consent and contracts: the board approved submission of a 2025 grant narrative/application to the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) for the Barry County Substance Abuse Task Force to conduct education, communication and outreach regarding the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act; approved PA 116 farmland/open-space application #24-6 for Shane Hickey (Castleton Township); approved Budget Amendment 24-C; accepted the 2025 remonumentation grant agreement with the State of Michigan (LARA) and authorized the grant administrator to sign related paperwork and an administrative agreement with Anderwylde LLC for remonumentation grant administration services; and approved an audit engagement agreement with Gabridge & Co. to perform the 2024 Barry County Road Commission audit. The listing of consent items in the minutes was moved by Commissioner Mark Doster and supported by Commissioner Catherine Getty and approved by unanimous roll call.
Payments and claims: commissioners moved and recorded unanimous roll call approval of prepaid invoices totaling $4,686,307.68 (motion moved by Commissioner Jon Smelker, supported by Commissioner Mark Doster), approval of claims totaling $84,933.77 (moved by Commissioner Jon Smelker, supported by Commissioner Bruce Campbell), and approval of commissioners' mileage reimbursements totaling $213.73 (moved by Commissioner Jon Smelker, supported by Commissioner Bob Teunessen).
Appointment: the board accepted the resignation of Craig Stolsonburg as the Village of Middleville appointee to the Barry County Materials Management Planning Committee and appointed Trustee Tracy Gillhespy of the Village of Middleville to serve as the city/village representative for the term 12/1/2024–11/30/2029; that motion was moved by Commissioner Jon Smelker and supported by Commissioner Catherine Getty and approved unanimously.
