The Barry County Committee of the Whole on Jan. 21 recommended that the Board of Commissioners approve publication and promotion of a request for proposals (RFP) for allocation of the county’s Opioid Settlement Funds. The RFP was prepared by the Opioid Settlement Fund Steering Committee and an RFP workgroup.
Liz Lenz presented the RFP item. Commissioner Catherine Getty moved to recommend approval of the RFP and Commissioner David Hatfield supported the motion. The Committee recorded all ayes with Commissioner Jon Smelker absent.
Public comment at the meeting included remarks from Bill Mattson, executive director of the Family Support Center, who spoke in favor of using settlement funds and supported the RFP process. The RFP and any resulting awards or contracts will be administered through the county’s procurement and grant processes and will return to the Board for any approvals that exceed administrative authority.
The recommendation authorizes the county to publish and promote the RFP with attachments as prepared by the steering committee; it does not itself approve specific awards or spending. The full Board of Commissioners will consider the Committee’s recommendation at its next scheduled meeting.
