Barry County panel recommends applying for state transit funds, names transportation director as representative

The motion was made by Commissioner Mike Callton and supported by Commissioner Catherine Getty; the Committee recorded all ayes with Commissioner Jon Smelker absent. The recommendation will be forwarded to the full Board of Commissioners for consideration.
The resolution authorizes the county to apply for Act 51 funds for FY2026 and names the transportation director as the county’s liaison to the State Transportation Commission and department for information, agreements and document execution related to Act 51 administration. The committee item appeared in the meeting packet as a Transit FY2026 Resolution of Intent.
The action does not itself appropriate operating funds; it is a step authorizing application for state formula assistance under Act 51 of the Public Acts of 1951, as amended. Any funding award and related county match or program requirements would be considered separately by the Board and implemented by the county’s transportation staff.
