The Houghton County Board of Commissioners voted on July 18 to extend a 30-day, $300,000 offer to Torch Lake Federal Credit Union for purchase of a county-owned building. The motion—moved by Commissioner Keranen and seconded by Commissioner Anderson—passed unanimously.
The offer specifies that the sale price includes the building’s generator and that Houghton County will remove the communication tower and concrete, restoring the site’s appearance. Chairman Tom Tikkanen said the Credit Union may be interested; Administrator Larson will contact the Credit Union and Commissioner Janssen will assist with the transaction. The minutes note the county intends to apply sale proceeds to the 911 Board.
Sheriff Joshua Saaranen told the board that new antennas are expected to be installed around Aug. 8 and that the tower would likely be taken down thereafter, possibly in September. The motion gives the Credit Union 30 days to accept the offer.
