County approves amended apportionment report; 2023 taxable value $1.148 billion

On Nov. 14 the Houghton County Board of Commissioners approved the 2023 amended apportionment report presented by Equalization Director Jaikob Djerf.
Djerf reported the county's total taxable value for 2023 as $1,148,188,883. He said he had consulted with Stanton Township and the City of Houghton and had spoken with other townships. The interlocal assessor arrangement was described as carrying no cost to participating townships, and the deadline for townships to respond on interlocal participation was listed as Dec. 8, 2023.
The motion to approve the amended apportionment report carried by roll-call vote with Commissioners Anderson, Janssen, Tikkanen and Britz voting yes and Commissioner Keranen absent.
Next steps: townships that wish to join the interlocal assessor arrangement must respond by Dec. 8, 2023; county staff will proceed with implementation for participating jurisdictions.
