CARSON — The Grant County Weed Board voted to accept its 2024 annual report on April 15 and discussed steps to boost participation in the county’s chemical cost‑share program.
Merlin Leithold, the county weed officer and secretary, reviewed the 2024 report and noted outreach remains a challenge. Leithold said he advertises the program and suggested the board consider including a notice in the county tax statement to inform landowners about cost assistance for chemicals. Dick Woodbury moved to accept the annual report; Justin Vetter seconded and the motion carried.
Leithold also relayed a request from Extension agent Tessa for help identifying kochia plants that may be resistant to herbicides; she wants tissue samples sent for testing. The board did not allocate funds specifically for testing at the meeting but recorded the need to collect suspected samples.
The board discussed ways to increase participation in the program but did not set a formal outreach timetable during the April 15 meeting.
