Morton County Commission approves bridge contract, grant application, appointments and LEC equipment purchase

The Morton County Commission met Dec. 26, 2023 and approved a series of routine motions, including a North Dakota Department of Transportation contract for Bridge 30-143-19.0, authorization to submit a court facilities grant application and several board appointments.
Nathan Boehm, chairman of the Morton County Commission, called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. The meeting was held virtually with Commissioners Zachmeier, Leingang, Morrell and Buckley and Auditor Dawn R. Rhone participating online.
Among the votes taken, Commissioner Buckley moved to approve the agenda and Commissioner Morrell seconded; the motion carried with all voting aye. The commission also unanimously approved the minutes of the Dec. 14, 2023 regular meeting and approved bills and payroll after a motion from Chairman Boehm and a second from Commissioner Zachmeier.
The commission approved a contract with Swingen Construction Co. for Bridge 30-143-19.0 after a motion by Commissioner Leingang and a second by Commissioner Morrell. The body also approved the Law Enforcement Center operating agreement with the City of Mandan and authorized submission of a North Dakota Court Facilities Improvement Grant application.
The commission approved an expenditure not to exceed $31,302.68 from the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) Capital Fund for fitness equipment following a motion by Commissioner Morrell and a second by Commissioner Buckley.
The commission confirmed multiple appointments to local water boards. Commissioner Zachmeier moved and Commissioner Morrell seconded to appoint Ryan Jockers, Luci Snowden and Alan Kemmet to the Lower Heart Water Resources Board for three-year terms ending Dec. 31, 2026. Commissioner Buckley moved and Commissioner Zachmeier seconded to appoint Todd Norton to an unexpired term on the Morton County Water Resources Board ending Dec. 31, 2024. The commission also appointed Jamie Wetsch, Wade Bachmeier and Jim Schmidt to three-year terms on the Morton County Water Resources Board ending Dec. 31, 2026; all appointments passed with all commissioners voting aye.
Commissioners approved the county election precincts with no changes. The meeting record notes the total of all county funds expended from Dec. 15 through Dec. 26, 2023 was $500,659.54; a detailed list of expenditures by check is available for public inspection during regular business hours at the Morton County Auditor’s Office.
Chairman Boehm adjourned the meeting at 5:57 p.m.
