Sumter County reallocates ARPA broadband funds to buy fire truck and two ambulances

The Fiscal, Tax and Property Committee reported that Farmers Telephone Company received state broadband funds, reducing Sumter County’s need to fund broadband locally. The committee recommended reallocating the County’s ARPA broadband allocation to public safety equipment. The committee’s motion and a second were recorded and the full council voted unanimously to approve the recommendation.
County Administrator Gary Mixon and committee members said the reallocation is intended to address immediate public-safety equipment needs. The minutes record council direction for the administrator and relevant departments to proceed with purchasing and administration of the vehicles from the reallocated ARPA funds.
