Sumter County staff prepared an application to the South Carolina Association of Counties' J. Graham Mitchell Award to showcase the county's "Stash The Trash" litter-prevention efforts, County Administrator Gary Mixon told council on May 9. The application packet was submitted ahead of the May 15, 2023 deadline, and staff will present to award judges on May 24; Joe Perry is handling the video portion of the presentation.
Mixon characterized the program as a model other counties might adopt to reduce litter; no funding or program changes were proposed at the May 9 meeting. The announcement was part of the County Administrator's report and did not require council action.
