Whitfield County commissioners approve bridge rehab, bank signer changes, rezoning and multiple routine items

Whitfield County commissioners approved a slate of routine and capital items at their April 11 meeting, including bridge rehabilitation, bank signature updates, property conveyances, a rezoning, and grant applications.
Public Works: The Board ratified a $1,886,411.50 agreement with E&D Contracting to rehabilitate five bridges using 2020 SPLOST funds. The project includes bearing replacements, fiber wrap installations, joint replacements, deck overlays and other repairs. Separately, the Board approved a professional services contract with Southeastern Engineering, Inc. (SEI) for $108,000 to provide surveying, design, drainage design, utility coordination and construction inspection for eight corrugated metal pipe drainage replacements.
Finance and administration: Commissioners voted to remove former County Administrator Mark Gibson as an authorized signer on Truist and Bank of the Ozark accounts and to add County Administrator Robert Sivick and Finance Director James Garvin as signers; motions were approved unanimously.
Planning and property: The Board approved rezoning for an 8.89-acre tract on McGaughey Chapel Road requested by Karen Roark, and recorded no land use classification objection on several annexation parcels presented by the cities of Varnell and Tunnel Hill.
Parks and grants: The county ratified a change order for Riverbend Park site work totaling $19,000 and approved applying for a Kubota Hometown Proud grant of up to $100,000 to purchase playground equipment for Riverbend Park. The minutes also note the recent grand opening of Riverbend Park and the reopening of Miracle Field after pandemic closures.
Equipment and repairs: The Board approved a sole-source repair contract with LBV, Inc. for up to $50,000 to repair the EMA mobile command vehicle.
Other routine business on the consent agenda—minutes approval, budget closeouts, Truist and Bank of the Ozark signature updates, conveyance of Trailblazer Lane from Whitfield County Schools, and conveyance of a small Hill Road parcel to Whitfield County Schools for ingress/egress improvements—were approved by roll call votes as recorded in the minutes.
