Whitfield County reviews September finances, discusses budget workshop dates and hears public comments

Title ad valorem tax (TAVT) collections for September were $398,643 (11% less than August). YTD actual revenues were $27,069,877 versus projected revenues of $25,577,316. YTD actual expenditures were $37,979,467 versus projected $37,126,062. The board approved the financial statement 3-0.
The board discussed possible dates for 2023 budget workshops (Nov. 28 and 29 at 5 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Building) and agreed to publish public notices once dates are finalized.
County Engineer Kent Bensen provided project updates on a Houston Valley Road roundabout quote, safety options for Dawnville Beaverdale Road, and a GDOT notification about the Dawnville/State Route 286 intersection. Chairman Jevin Jensen announced Steve Bratton as the sole finalist for Road and Highway Superintendent; Bratton has five years in Public Works and was second in command under the prior superintendent. The board reappointed Bucky Broadrick to the Whitfield County Board of Health by unanimous vote.
Public comments: Vicky Alt raised concerns about chicken houses; Matt Coker (resident of Cohutta Varnell Rd.) thanked the board for streaming planning commission meetings on Facebook; Debra Gordon (Rosewood Circle) addressed littering concerns.
