Summary
The Whitfield County Board of Commissioners approved closing and issuing a quitclaim for part of Battle Ridge Drive and approved multiple rezoning requests — including a conditional high-density rezoning — during its Oct. 6, 2022 meeting.
The Whitfield County Board of Commissioners voted Oct. 6 to close and abandon a portion of Battle Ridge Drive and to approve several rezoning requests across the county.
Commissioner Greg Jones moved and Commissioner Barry W. Robbins seconded a motion to close and abandon and issue a quitclaim deed for a portion of Battle Ridge Drive located in Land Lot 68 of the 12th district and 3rd section of Whitfield County. The board approved the motion 4-0. A public hearing was held before the vote; John Davis spoke in favor of the closing and there were no speakers against it.
Also on the agenda, the board approved a rezoning requested by RW Sales, LLC to rezone 2.62 acres at Dawnville Road and Brooker Road (Parcel 12-127-01-017) from Low Density Single Family Residential (R-2) to High Density Residential (R-7). The approval carried a condition that Gail Drive not be used for ingress or egress to the property. The motion was approved 4-0.
The board also rezoned a county-owned 24.47-acre tract at 1531 Beaverdale Road (Parcel 10-254-01-000) from Rural Residential (R-5) to General Agriculture (GA) on a unanimous vote, and approved a separate request by Elvia Zendejas to rezone roughly 1 acre at 1012 Coogler Road (Parcel 12-254-01-001) from General Commercial (C-2) to Rural Residential (R-5).
A rezoning request by Doyle Gazaway to change 4.38 acres on Stadium Way (Parcel 11-119-01-054) from General Agriculture (GA) to Neighborhood Commercial (C-1) was denied, consistent with the Planning Commission recommendation. All rezoning motions passed 4-0.
The board’s actions were taken during the regular business meeting at the courthouse. The board’s chair opened and closed a public hearing on the Battle Ridge Drive petition before the formal vote.
