County adopts 2022 Hazard Mitigation update, renews fire station furnishings budget and applies for FEMA AFG grant

On Jan. 9 the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners approved the county's 2022 Hazard Mitigation Plan update, which staff said meets the federal five-year update requirement under the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 and will inform emergency management planning, training and mitigation efforts.
The board also approved a budget continuation to complete a previously authorized capital purchase of fire-station furniture after manufacturer delays; staff said the vendor offered an alternative chair at the prior price and final costs are expected to be $6,225 under the original request.
Commissioners unanimously approved applying for the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) for fiscal year 2022; the county noted the application deadline of Feb. 10, 2023.
All motions carried 4-0.
