Whitfield County commissioners set 2023 millage at 6.0 mills and dissolve 0.397-mill special tax district

Commissioner Barry W. Robbins moved to establish the 6.0 mills maintenance and operations rate; Commissioner Robby Staten seconded the motion, which passed 5-0 with Chairman Jevin Jensen and Commissioners Greg Jones, John Thomas, Robby Staten and Barry W. Robbins recorded in favor.
The meeting record shows Commissioner Greg Jones moved to dissolve the jointly funded special tax district assessed at 0.397 mills; Commissioner John Thomas seconded the motion. Chairman Jevin Jensen noted the dissolution had been agreed to in the 2022 LOST agreement with the City of Dalton. The motion passed 5-0.
Earlier in the meeting, commissioners approved the meeting agenda. That procedural motion was made by Commissioner Barry W. Robbins, seconded by Commissioner Robby Staten and recorded as approved 4-0 with Commissioners Greg Jones, John Thomas, Robby Staten and Barry W. Robbins in agreement.
The meeting was convened by Chairman Jevin Jensen at the Courthouse BOC Meeting Room, 205 N. Selvidge Street. Blanca Cardona, county clerk, signed the minutes and dated them Sept. 1, 2023. The record lists county staff and department heads as present, and includes a notation that the special tax district dissolution relates to the 2022 Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) agreement with the City of Dalton.
