Whitfield County sets 2023 millage at 6.0; special tax district 3.041

The Whitfield County Board of Commissioners voted Friday, Sept. 15, 2023, to set the county maintenance and operations millage rate for 2023 at 6.0 mills and to set the special tax district millage at 3.041 mills. The action was taken at a special called meeting in the courthouse meeting room.
Commissioner Barry W. Robbins moved to approve the resolution setting the county millage at 6.0; Commissioner Greg Jones seconded the motion. The board approved the resolution 5-0, with Chairman Jevin Jensen and Commissioners Greg Jones, John Thomas, Robby Staten and Barry W. Robbins recorded in agreement.
Chairman Jevin Jensen noted the county implemented a full rollback for the 2023 tax year and also noted that Whitfield County Schools' millage rate is 18.5 mills. The minutes record that the special tax district millage of 3.041 mills reflects the removal of the Dalton Whitfield Library, the Dalton Whitfield Joint Development Authority and the Senior Center from that tax district.
Earlier in the meeting, the board approved the meeting agenda on a motion by Commissioner Barry W. Robbins and a second from Commissioner Robby Staten; that procedural motion was recorded as approved 4-0. The special called meeting then adjourned by unanimous vote.
