Tift County confirms backhoe lease payments and clarifies fire truck funding sources

At the May 2 workshop the Tift County Board of Commissioners heard two related equipment and vehicle finance items. Public Works Director Jason Jordan said the county's two leased Deere backhoes — lease arranged through Deere Credit and Dobbs Equipment (formerly Flint Equipment) — have arrived and that lease payments will total $55,722.77 over three years; he said the expense was included in the budget.
County Manager Jim Carter clarified an earlier minute and funding entry regarding the purchase of three Class A rescue pumpers from Toyne, Inc. The March 14, 2022 minutes had stated the full $1,664,401 purchase would come from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds; Carter said only $1.2 million has been obligated from ARPA and the remaining balance is to be paid from the Fire District Fund. The manager said the minutes will be corrected to reflect the split funding.
The workshop did not include a formal vote on contract awards for the vehicles; commissioners directed staff to place the needed agenda items for the May 8 meeting so the board can act formally.
