Tift County tables condemnation for Red Oak Road paving project

The Tift County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 14 tabled a condemnation decision needed to complete right-of-way for a 1.5-mile paving project on Red Oak Road.
Public Works Director Jason Jordan summarized two acquisition options. Option 1 would condemn Tract 3 (0.621 acres) for $6,300 from Margie E. Fowler and Tract 4 (0.779 acres) for $9,800 from Linda Kay Ford. Option 2 would condemn Tracts 3 and 2 combined (0.923 acres) for $9,230 and Tracts 4 and 1 combined (2.269 acres) for $30,190; Option 2 would allow the county to remove a dilapidated structure on the property. Jordan also said Georgia Power will require an easement as part of the project.
Commissioner Melissa Hughes moved to table the item until the next meeting; Commissioner Fred "Buck" Rigdon seconded the motion, which passed unanimously, 6-0. No vote on condemnation or purchase amounts was taken; the board will revisit the matter at a future meeting.
