Commissioners preview SPLOST VI‑funded purchases and administrative items ahead of Aug. 14 consent agenda

County staff used the Aug. 8 workshop to brief the Tift County Board of Commissioners on a number of departmental purchases and administrative items they recommended for the Aug. 14 regular meeting consent agenda, most to be funded from SPLOST VI.
Highlights presented by staff included:
- A new safety cell inside the medical offices at the Tift County Detention Center, estimated at $24,727 (County Manager Jim Carter). - A recommended email filtering and monitoring service (Thinkgard with Cisco licensing) at $11,044 per year (IT Director Al Stephenson). - Three thermal imager cameras with truck chargers for new fire engines, low quote $9,843 (Public Safety Director Joey Fowler). - 4,000 feet of large diameter supply hose for the Fire Department, low quote $29,400 (Joey Fowler). - A set of Hurst E‑Hydraulic rescue tools (cutter, spreader, ram, batteries, charger), sole source, $30,852 (Joey Fowler). - A 2023 Ford Explorer for the Fire Battalion Chief at $54,000 (state contract pricing) (Joey Fowler). - A property tax system upgrade to improve reports and audits at $26,885 (Tax Commissioner Chad Alexander). - A personal property audit contract with Traylor Business Services at $18,000 (Chief Appraiser Hayward Becton). - A playground play structure for Puckett Park, low quote $131,167 (Play South Burke) including bonded rubber surfacing (Recreation Director Tim Petrea).
Most of the items were recommended for the consent agenda; Resolution No. 2023‑11 (surplus vehicles and equipment) was placed on the regular agenda because it includes donations and potential vehicle sales. County Clerk Miriam Jordan also said USDA requested an additional lease amendment clause to prohibit ByteDance (TikTok) use as a condition of their lease, and the county noted they do not provide telecommunications to USDA but would include the requested language in the lease amendment.
No formal votes occurred on these items at the workshop; staff recommendations will be considered at the Aug. 14 regular meeting.
