Residents press Tift County commissioners to consider paper ballots and question SPLOST VII

Multiple residents spoke during the public‑comment portion of the Tift County Board of Commissioners workshop on Aug. 8, 2023, urging the board to reconsider the county’s use of electronic voting machines and to adopt paper ballots.
Christopher Burchell of 2415 Madison Drive raised concerns about the proposed SPLOST VII sales tax and asked the board to weigh community impacts before placing the measure on a ballot. Several other residents — including Greg Womack, Ann Jones, Reece Hall, Marjorie Womack and Rebekah Hall — each told commissioners they were worried about electronic voting machines and urged the board to consider using paper ballots instead.
Andrea Albright, representing Keep Tift Beautiful, also spoke during public comment and urged the board to appoint Dr. Gertrude Nakakeeto to the Keep Tift Beautiful board.
The workshop format allowed commissioners to hear these comments but did not include a formal vote on any change in voting equipment or SPLOST policy. Commissioners indicated the items raised would be considered in future agenda work and that concerns expressed during public comment would be entered into the record.
