Commissioners approve consent agenda, file transit application and extend Behavioral Health deadline

On Oct. 9 the Tift County Board of Commissioners approved a consent agenda covering routine and policy items and authorized a follow-up letter to Behavioral Health.
Consent items approved included removing a condemnation action on Red Oak Road from the agenda; approving a UFA soccer agreement for use of recreation facilities; adopting Resolution No. 2023-16 declaring surplus vehicles and equipment; accepting a quote of $18,480 from Cason Painting Company to paint USDA offices at the Extension Building; approving Resolution No. 2023-14 to authorize filing an application by the Southern Georgia Regional Commission for transit services; and approving Resolution No. 2023-15 concerning continued efforts to reform and improve mental health services. Commissioner Donnie Hester moved approval and Commissioner Greg Wood seconded; the motion carried 6-0.
Later in the meeting, after an executive session for real estate and legal matters, the board authorized County Manager Jim Carter to send a letter to Behavioral Health extending a deadline to June 30, 2024.
Why it matters: the consent items advance routine county operations, transit planning and mental-health reform efforts; the Behavioral Health deadline extension sets a new target date for the recipient to respond or comply.
