Tift County approves $178,787.48 sole-source shower replacement for jail

County Manager Jim Carter told commissioners the existing showers have deteriorated "to a point where replacement is necessary." Staff evaluated several systems and recommended the Decofloor Coating Seamless Shower System, to be installed by Marathon Engineering Corporation, which staff identified as a sole-source provider. The board approved the purchase at a cost of $178,787.48, to be paid from the Jail Construction Fund; Commissioner Donnie Hester moved to approve and Commissioner Greg Wood seconded, and the motion carried 6-0.
The board did not discuss an alternative vendor at the meeting; the purchase was authorized as a sole-source award. The county manager also indicated executive session was needed later in the meeting for real estate and legal matters.
Why it matters: the work is a county facilities maintenance and safety issue and uses dedicated jail-construction funds. The board’s approval authorizes staff to proceed with contracting and installation under the sole-source procurement rationale presented at the meeting.
