Screven County commissioners approve waste‑services assignment, cancel fourth‑Tuesday meetings and adopt courthouse COVID protections

Triplett voted in favor; Commissioner Mike Dixon voted no and Commissioner Rosa Romeo abstained, giving the motion a majority passage.
Commissioner John O. Triplett raised the board's meeting schedule and Commissioner J.C. Warren moved to adopt a resolution cancelling the regular fourth‑Tuesday meeting of each month until further notice. Commissioner Edwin Lovett seconded; the resolution carried unanimously.
Commissioner Mike Dixon moved to stagger monthly meetings from 9:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M.; Commissioner Boyd seconded. That motion failed after mixed votes and abstentions: Dixon and Boyd voted in favor; Warren, Lovett and Triplett opposed; Romeo and McBride abstained.
The board agreed to table filling an unexpired term on the Airport Authority until the October meeting; no appointment was made.
Following a closed session on personnel, the board returned to open session and voted to adopt a resolution to provide protections to the public and employees of the Screven County Courthouse due to COVID‑19. Commissioners Lovett, Warren, Romeo, Dixon and McBride voted in favor; Commissioners Triplett and Boyd opposed; the resolution carried by majority vote.
Personnel Director and Finance Officer Lori Boulineau reminded the board that it will meet Sept. 29 to adopt the millage rate. Chairman Will Boyd adjourned the meeting at 10:47 A.M.
