The Screven County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution setting the county's 2020 millage rate at 30.175 during a called meeting Sept. 29 at the Screven County Courthouse. Tax Commissioner David Long presented the proposed levy, the minutes state.
Commissioner J.C. Warren moved to adopt the resolution, and Commissioner Edwin Lovett seconded; the motion carried by unanimous vote, according to the board's minutes. The minutes note a copy of the resolution was placed in the minute book but do not specify a page number.
The meeting began at 9:00 a.m., when Chairman Will Boyd called the meeting to order. Commissioner Michael McBride gave the invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Commissioner McBride had earlier moved to approve the meeting agenda; Commissioner John O. Triplett seconded, and that motion also carried unanimously.
The board recessed into executive session at 9:08 a.m. for the purpose of discussing land acquisition. Commissioner McBride moved to enter executive session; Commissioner Mike Dixon seconded and the motion carried by unanimous vote. The board recorded that it returned to regular session at 12:16 p.m. after a motion by Commissioner J.C. Warren, seconded by Commissioner McBride, which likewise carried unanimously.
The minutes state there was no public comment. The meeting adjourned at 12:16 p.m., with Chairman Will Boyd presiding. Two members, Edwin Lovett and Commissioner Rosa Romeo, were recorded as attending the meeting via Zoom in the minutes.
