Screven County commissioners reappoint assessor, approve up to $20,000 for fire-truck equipment and adopt COVID-19 policy

The Screven County Board of Commissioners met on Jan. 12, 2021 in the Screven County Courthouse and unanimously approved a set of routine and operational actions, including a reappointment to the Board of Assessors, a SPLOST-funded equipment purchase for a fire truck, and adoption of a county COVID-19 policy.

The board reappointed James Snow to the Board of Assessors on a motion by Commissioner J.C. Warren, seconded by Commissioner Rosa Romeo; the vote was unanimous. Warren also moved to approve purchasing equipment to outfit a recently purchased fire truck, saying Fire Chief Harvey Cryder had estimated the cost would not exceed $20,000. Romeo seconded that motion; the board approved using SPLOST funds for the purchase by unanimous vote.

Following an executive session called to discuss personnel and litigation, the board returned to regular session and voted to adopt the Screven County COVID-19 policy on a motion by Commissioner J.C. Warren, seconded by Commissioner Edwin Lovett. Commissioners approved the executive-session minutes before taking the vote. The meeting record shows all votes on these actions were unanimous.

Other routine procedural items were approved during the meeting, including the agenda and corrected minutes from the Dec. 8, 2020 meeting. Commissioners also heard brief reports: Commissioner John O. Triplett noted newly installed lighting at the Recreation Department gym and asked the board to consider upcoming appointments to the Hospital Authority; Commissioner Mike Dixon asked for a status update on a driveway and roof project at the Fire/EMS Department.
