Ben Hill County commissioners approve rezoning for 187 W. Jack Allen Rd., adopt six‑officer school resource agreement and update technical codes

Ben Hill County commissioners voted Oct. 8 to approve a rezoning for 187 W. Jack Allen Rd., to adopt a School Resource Agreement providing six resource officers, and to amend the county Code of Ordinances to revise technical codes.

Building and Zoning Director Jake Hughes presented the rezoning request for property owned/used by Jeffery Stegall, saying the parcel "is currently used for Mr. Stegall's vehicles and equipment" and that the requested change from M‑R (Multi‑Residential) to RR (Rural Residential) would allow Mr. Stegall to place a manufactured home on the property for a family member; Hughes said no additional manufactured homes are proposed at this time. Commissioner John Mooney moved to approve the rezoning for Jeffery Stegall; Commissioner Daniel Cowan seconded and the motion passed with Commissioners Mooney, Calloway, Cowan and Chairman Steve Taylor voting in favor.

The commission adopted a School Resource Agreement to place six resource officers in county schools. Commissioner Daniel Cowan made the motion to adopt the agreement; the motion passed with the same unanimous vote.

Commissioner John Mooney moved and Commissioner Bennie Calloway seconded a motion to adopt revisions to the county's technical codes in the Code of Ordinances; that motion also passed unanimously.

Chairman Steve Taylor noted that election board appointments will be voted on at the next regular meeting. The meeting record shows public comment on county leave policy and a brief executive session before adjournment.
