Ben Hill County commissioners approve contracts, equipment purchase and property transfer

The Ben Hill County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Nov. 4 to approve several agreements, equipment procurement and a property transfer.
Commissioner John Mooney moved to approve a probation-services agreement with Judicial Alternatives of Georgia for the Magistrate Court; Vice-Chair Hope Harmon seconded, and the motion passed with all commissioners voting yes. Mooney made a second motion to approve a similar probation-services agreement for the Probate Court; Harmony seconded and that motion also passed unanimously.
Vice-Chair Hope Harmon moved to approve an intergovernmental agreement between Ben Hill County and the Fitzgerald–Ben Hill County Regional Solid Waste Authority; Commissioner Daniel Cowan seconded and the motion passed with all members voting in favor. The board also approved a memorandum of understanding with the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation after a motion by Commissioner John Mooney and a second from Vice-Chair Harmon.
On procurement, Commissioner Mooney moved to accept a quote from Yancey for a 2025 motor grader, model 140-C93, for the county Road Department. Vice-Chair Harmon seconded and the board voted unanimously to approve the purchase.
The board approved a resolution declaring county property as surplus and authorizing its disposal after a motion by Vice-Chair Harmon and a second from Commissioner Cowan.
Commissioner Bennie Calloway moved to approve a quit-claim deed transferring a small parcel to the Ben Hill–Irwin Joint Development Authority to create a driveway for Wiregrass Technical College; Vice-Chair Harmon seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The meeting record shows each motion was seconded and approved by the five commissioners present: Vice-Chair Hope Harmon, Commissioner Bennie Calloway, Commissioner John Mooney, Commissioner Daniel Cowan and Chairman Hal Wiley. No votes against or abstentions were recorded.
The board did not present department head reports or take executive session action during the meeting. The meeting adjourned after public comment and short commissioner remarks.
