Coffee County commissioners on Monday approved a set of administrative and procurement actions, including an engineering services contract for Bud Hutcheson Road, a plan to distribute Victim Assistance Funds among local service providers and the purchase of new self-contained breathing apparatus for the fire department.
County Administrator Wesley Vickers presented the engineering services contract with Statewide Engineering to design drainage, widening and resurfacing improvements on Bud Hutcheson Road. The county approved basic services at $266,575 with an additional $15,000 set aside for extra services; Vickers said the project is a TIA project and the Georgia Department of Transportation will reimburse the county for those funds. The commission voted unanimously to approve the contract.
Vickers also presented a memorandum of understanding governing distribution of Victim Assistance Funds. The commission approved a plan to divide the funds evenly — 33.3% each — among Magnolia House, Sadie's House and the Ware County District Attorney's office.
On procurement for the Coffee County Fire Department, bids were opened for replacement SCBAs. Two bidders were listed: SCBA Sales and Rentals LLC ($120,399.80) and Dalmatian Fire Equipment, Inc. (net $141,386.00). Commissioners accepted the low bid from SCBA Sales and Rentals LLC; the award was approved unanimously.
The board confirmed a slate of county officers and made appointments or reappointments to multiple authorities and boards, including the Economic Development Authority, hospital authority districts, the board of elections for several districts, the Farmers Market board, the Ocmulgee Blueway Committee and the Douglas-Coffee County Land Bank Authority. Commissioner Jimmy Kitchens read the list of nominees and the commission approved the appointments by unanimous vote.
Administrators also presented an updated 2021 County Maintained Road List; the commission approved the updated list unanimously.
Human Resources Director Princess Zachery recognized Connie Lott for 25 years as Senior Citizens Director and 38 years of combined service with the Senior Aging Agency and the county. Chairman Jowers asked the meeting to remember the county clerk's family after a recent death and to recognize those affected by COVID-19.
No members of the public addressed the commission during the public comment period. The meeting adjourned at 9:55 a.m.
